These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the PDFTrans website and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by PDFTrans ("we", "us", or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction, to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. The Service
PDFTrans provides tools to upload or link to PDF documents and generate translated or bilingual PDF outputs, primarily for academic, scientific, and technical reading workflows. Features may include language selection, translation engine options, online preview, batch processing, and credit-based usage.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or error-free operation.
3. Accounts and Authentication
You may need an account to access certain features. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate account information
- Maintaining the security of your login credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
4. Credits, Pricing, and Payments
Some features require credits or paid purchases.
- Credit balances, pricing, and usage rates are displayed within the Service and may change from time to time
- Purchases are processed by third-party payment providers such as Stripe
- Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable once credits are delivered or services have been consumed
- Promotional or welcome credits may be subject to additional limits or expiration rules shown in the Service
We may investigate billing discrepancies and correct credit balances when appropriate.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service. You must not:
- Upload content you do not have the legal right to use, translate, or distribute
- Use the Service to infringe intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
- Upload malware, attempt unauthorized access, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or automate access in a way that exceeds reasonable use or violates these Terms
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or deceptive purposes
- Submit content that is illegal, exploitative, or intended to bypass usage limits or payment requirements
You are solely responsible for the documents you upload and for ensuring your use complies with applicable laws, institutional policies, publisher terms, and copyright obligations.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of the PDFs and other materials you submit to the Service, subject to any rights held by third parties. You grant us a limited license to host, process, transmit, and display your content only as necessary to operate the Service, provide support, and comply with law.
6.2 Our Service
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and documentation, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or proprietary materials except as needed to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
7. Translation Output and Disclaimer
Translations are generated automatically and may contain errors, omissions, or formatting differences. PDFTrans is designed to preserve layout where possible, but results may vary depending on document quality, source language, file structure, scanned content, fonts, and the selected translation engine.
You acknowledge that:
- Output is provided for reading assistance and research workflows, not as certified, legal, medical, or professional advice
- You should review important passages, formulas, citations, and technical terms before relying on translated content
- We do not guarantee perfect preservation of formulas, figures, tables, references, or page layout in every document
8. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you also agree to that policy.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service may integrate with or link to third-party services, including identity providers, payment processors, translation engines, and external PDF sources. Your use of third-party services may be subject to separate terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
10. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service, in whole or in part, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure for us or other users, or if required by law.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply, including provisions related to intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF TRANSLATIONS.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PDFTRANS AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless PDFTrans and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or related to your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may be communicated through the Service or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where PDFTrans operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country require otherwise.
